Slender Man

from Volume I by Close to Good

/

about

Dave: Slenderman first came to me in a photograph I saw sometime during the early fall of 2011. After researching the internet legend, from its birth in the Marble Hornets videos, to the later photo competition that rendered many compelling images, I realized that like all myths, Slenderman would always - in some way - be real. Even if it only exists in one's mind and not in physical space, it exists nonetheless.

One cannot become unaware of a myth after becoming aware of it, and what one's imagination does with that awareness is sometimes out of their control. This was the main inspiration for the song, which expresses this relationship from different perspectives; that of those who are haunted by Slenderman, that of those who no longer believe, and that of the Slenderman himself.
